The Cheshire Trauma Team is made up of Heather and Matthew
Heather and Matthew both started their Fire Service careers as On-Call Firefighters at Stockton Heath in 2014 and 2013 respectively.
Since then they have both secured Wholetime positions within Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, although they are still On Call Firefighters at Stockton Heath, with Heather working at Runcorn Fire Station and Matthew working at Warrington Fire Station.
They both have a keen interest in Trauma and are both Faculty Members of the ATACC Group (Anaesthesia Trauma and Critical Care), a course that teaches pre-hospital trauma care to candidates from all over the World.
Heather and Matthew have been involved with UKRO for just 1 year. Their first competition was last years National Trauma Challenge hosted by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, where they were a late entry with just 2 weeks notice to prepare for the challenge.
After a successful first day on the standard scenario Heather and Matthew were well placed going into day 2.
The complex scenario on the second day didn’t go as well as it could have done for Team Cheshire and although there were plenty of learning points to take away we are hoping to do better this year.
Overall it was an extremely enjoyable experience and we are looking forward to competing at this years National Trauma Challenge and aspire to one day reach the World Trauma Challenge to represent Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
